About Alanna Saunders
I'm an artist based in Massachusetts and full-time student-athlete at Middlebury College :)
I've been in love with art ever since I can remember, and am working towards my dream of making a living from what I create.
A Bit of Background
I started creating artwork for others when I was 15, which was when I really began to acknowledge my passion for art.
I mostly work with acrylic paint and charcoal, and I take inspiration from pretty much everything around me.
Behind the Art
Portraiture holds a special place in my heart, and as I began to develop my artistic style, I realized that I often avoided natural skin tones when I painted. I started leaning into this habit, and soon enough, vibrant colors dominated my paintings.
When you take away the ability to process skin tone realistically, it allows us to admire the subject's features without being distracted by whatever subconscious biases we might have. I want my art to remind people that color is merely one example of beauty, not the definition of it.
